Bismuth-Chitosan Nanocomposite Sensors for Trace Level Detection of Ni(II) and Co(II) in Water Samples

Trace minerals play an essential role in methane production via anaerobic digestion (AD). It is important to monitor Ni(II) and Co(II) concentrations the Ni/Co concentration ratio for rapid diagnosis of ecological status or activity methanogens AD. Electrochemical detection was investigated by coating Bi-chitosan nanocomposite on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) electrodeposition technique. A square-wave adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry technique (SWAdCSV) applied optimized when dimethylglyoxime (DMG) used as chelating agent measurements. The SWAdCSV results showed that current peaks are 6.1 times greater than measurements, probably due different affinity DMG molecules between Co(II). demonstrated higher selectivity toward cations compared Ni(II). modified GCE developed this study relatively wide range (2–100 µg L−1) with limit 3.6 L−1 2.4 Co(II), respectively. sensor spiked natural water samples good performance 12 consecutive Overall, fabricated excellent sensitivity samples.
